Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of a revised mammography boot camp (MBC) program in 2016 and to compare the educational effect of new program with the effect of original camp.

Materials and Methods: In October of 2016, a basic MBC was conducted at Daejeon, Busan and Seoul and an advanced MBC was conducted at Seoul. The basic MBC was composed of lectures and the advanced MBC was composed of practical reading using 100 digital mammography cases. Pre- and post-camp tests with 25 cases were performed to evaluate attendees¡¯ improvement in interpreting mammography. We analyzed the factors affecting radiologists¡¯ performance, including type of attending institution, year of board certification and type of test cases.

Results: 140 radiologists were invited to basic MBC. Among them, 32 radiologists attended to advanced MBC. The average scores of the pre- and post- basic MBC tests were 54.8¡¾6.1 and 59.6¡¾3.6, showing a significant improvement (p=0.06). The average scores of the pre- and post- advanced MBC tests were 76.6¡¾9.8 and 82.9¡¾7.3 showing also significant improvement (p=0.001). The attendees who work at hospital or clinic showed the significant improvement of test scores after MBC (p=0.001) although the pre- and post-camp test scores did not differ in the group of radiologists in general hospital. The rate of correct answers was lower in negative cases than the other type of cases such as mass or microcalcification (p=0.03).

Conclusion: The newly performed revised MBC in 2016 improved the radiologists¡¯ performance in interpreting mammography. However, the educational effect was lower than the effect of original program. Therefore, interpreting a large number of breast cancer cases would be essential to improve the interpretation mammography. It is necessary to educate on decreasing recall rate for benign or negative cases.
